Thank You!

Dear Team Hope 2014,

For those who were able to attend Saturday’s kick-off, thank you! We had a great time together and I am looking forward to what we can accomplish together this year! For those who have already registered, THANK YOU! We have already had 13 people decide to join us for events in 2014. For those who are still considering joining us this year, I am praying for you! Please prayerfully considering joining us and know that we would love to have you. If you have any specific questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.

Just for clarification, remember that you only have to register for Team Hope International one time for the year and you can join at any time! Also, you have all year to raise funds and the suggested minimum fundraising goal of $500 does not have to be reached in one race! Remember, though, that there are great incentives to be reached throughout the year.

We have supplied training plans online for everything from a “couch to 5K” all the way to a full marathon! We will support your training at any level. If you haven’t yet joined the Facebook group, check it out! We update there often with events, info and great photos!

Please join me in praying for a wonderful opportunity we have this weekend as I’ll be an exhibitor at the “More 4 Orphans Summit” at the Columbus Vineyard Church on Friday and Saturday. This is an incredible conference focusing on orphan care locally and worldwide, adoption and foster care and a great chance to get our name out to others who are passionate about rescuing children at risk for trafficking.

Be sure to start letting your family and friends know about your goals and how you are making a world changing difference!

In Hope,
Diane Tirakis

Testimonial – Bekah Hilty

Bekah Hilty, a runner with Team Hope, has kindly allowed us to interview her about her experiences!

Why did you get involved with Team Hope?Bekah_Hilty_Wooster_2013
I got involved because I run a lot of races throughout the summer, spring and fall and when I learned about Team Hope I told myself that if I am already running, why not run for a great cause!

What was your experience like?
I have loved all of the races I have done with Team Hope. It’s a great group of people and you feel great racing when you are a part of this group. You aren’t just out there for yourself, your doing it for a great cause and rescuing kids!

How did it change your view of the orphan crisis?
I am amazed at just how many kids are affected by this every year. I am humbled by the love that is shown to these kids by the pastors and families that take them in who already don’t have that much but they do not turn these kids away. It reminds me that that God has blessed me so much and I want to give back.

How did it change you personally, physically, spiritually or otherwise?
I raced with an injury one time and another member of Team Hope told me any time I started to feel bad for myself I should think about these kids and the pain and anguish they go through each and every day. I literally came to tears several time throughout my race when I thought of the children and what they have been through. We are so blessed! I love being part of a group that is encouraging both physically and spiritually.

Why should others get involved?
Because we can change the life of so many children and stay healthy doing it!

A New Beginning!

Team Hope International 2014

A New Beginning!

2014 marks our 6th year  and since that time we have raised over $130,000 to combat child trafficking. This year we challenge you to “A New Beginning!” Make this your year to walk or run your very first race or  strive to complete a new, further distance! Work to achieve a personal record and fastest time. Recruit a group of friends to join you. And make this your best year yet of fundraising!  This year, we want to offer a new beginning to more children in Southeast Asia than ever before through our efforts!  Pay a one time registration fee of $30 for the entire season and race as many events as you’d like. The more funds you raise, the better the rewards for you and the more children that can be rescued from a life of poverty, fear, and risk of being sold into the sex trade.

Limping Along

I have been a runner for 10 years now. Albeit, very slow and not very graceful. But, 10 years is a lot of miles- some slogged and some euphoric. But the last 6 months have brought my feet to a halt due to injury.

And during that time, I have struggled to maintain passion and I have struggled to discern if running is my idol. I mean, the last 5 1/2 years my running has been all about orphans and sweet Asian children who deserve better than the horrors they have to face without help and hope. But, running has started my days, helped my attitude, given me a grounding and purpose.

So the last 6 months have brought uncertainty, some “grumpies” and some loss of direction. Which got me thinking that Jesus should be all of these things.  Jesus should be what grounds my days, gives me joy, points my compass of life.  Those in ministry know that it’s easy to let the ministry become the idol instead of Jesus.

So as I begin to limp back into running, I am praying that I don’t sprint back into old habits. As my footing is still a bit unsure and a bit sore, I will remember that Jesus is solid ground. And, so can you remember that walking, limping, sprinting, racing toward the goal of rescuing children is really about honoring Jesus.
